December 14, 2021 - eLearning Course on Health and Safety
Recently, my colleagues Arifa Rafeek, Danielle Ravdas, and I have created an online online course for HR professionals on Health & Safety. This course covers the basics of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act, Joint Health and Safety Committees, WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System), Ergonomics, Employee Wellness, WSIB (Workplace Safety and Insurance Board) Reporting, and Fire Safety and Emergency Protocols.
November 18, 2021 - Unique Learning Technologies
A new innovation that I recently read about online and seen in videos on YouTube is the ability to teach a lecture using holograms. At the Imperial College Business School in London, a lecture was delivered using a hologram. This was also done at the University of Texas in Austin, in which a "3D immersive video platform for long distance learning from [the] Contextual Content Group" called Resource was used to integrate holograms into the traditional lecture (Rudra). Both experiences cited that they were able to see the audience and also interact with the audience in real time, ask questions and engage with students. Some students at the Imperial College Business School in London said that they thought that using holograms within the lecture was far more engaging (Imperial College Business School). In addition, one student even stated it was very useful to bring in people globally and have interactions with professionals across the world (Imperial College Business School). In a classroom at Seneca it is common that we often get guest speakers to present to the class via a video communication software such as Zoom. Therefore, this would be far more engaging.
At the University of Texas, the staff wanted to create an "innovative way to increase teacher-student interaction" during the pandemic. In addition, they wanted to impress students to say something like, "This is cool," (Rudra). The professor teaching the holographic lecture stated that students were so interested in the technology, that they were more engaged and became a key part of the development team (Rudra). They also stated that even after the pandemic, holographic lectures provide a huge convenience factor (Rudra). This is because if a professor is travelling out of town for research or a conference they can still conduct the lecture, same applies to students. Moreover, it will "increase the footprint of the university," (Rudra).

November 8, 2021 - E-Learning Design
After working with a group to create an e-learning design including subtopics and included modules, my colleagues and I have compiled a few ideas for our next e-learning course titled: Introduction to Health and Safety for HR Professionals.
Let me know what you think!
October 18, 2021 - The Traditional Lesson Plan
I recently created a traditional lesson plan for a Technology Enhanced Learning Course. Through completing this assignment, I had learned that the traditional lesson plan can be significantly enhanced through e-learning and other technological advancements such as an HRIS. These advancements provide a benefit to organizations looking to increase employee retention through training.

October 9, 2021 - The Impact of AI on Training and Development
The scope of AI is very broad. It touches upon our daily lives. To put what I am saying into perspective, we can look into what Google is doing with their chip manufacturing. Previously, designing an SOC (system on chip) was an intensive task and required years of research. Nowadays, Google uses AI to create a machine learning algorithm that can design an SOC from scratch under 10 minutes. Siri also employs a machine learning process but it has not yet developed it's own consciousness. In the future of training and development, it would be interesting if machine learning is factored into employee training. Machine learning can individualize training programs even when several attendees are in a single session. It is much quicker for a machine to learn the areas in which each individual needs to improve and then tailor the program towards that in real-time. This would take longer for a human to preform provided a human would have to have hundreds of potential training modules ready. A machine can utilize several external and internal resources and run a script to search for the necessary programs. In the far future (hopefully), AI can completely take over creating a training program as it will have the conscious ability to make decisions.
